PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Provide technical support to the engineering, maintenance, and production groups in automated work areas to maximize work cell uptime, ensure proper processes are followed, and maintain product quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Repairs and maintains mechanical, hydraulic, and programmable components of production machines and equipment in and around the automated system work areas.

  • Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment. This may involve inspecting and measuring parts to detect wear, misalignment, or other problems; removing and replacing worn or defective parts; realigns and adjusts components; repairing broken parts; and conducting operational tests of equipment following repair.
  • Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
  • Modifies computer-controlled motion of robot.
  • First responder to automated work area faults and enacts corrective measures to clear faults.
  • Operates robotic and programmable controls to test automated equipment after repair to verify proper operation of equipment.
  • Reviews manufacturers' service manual, and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.
  • Studies production and operation schedules and confers with Engineers, Production , and Maintenance to determine when planned maintenance will least interfere with production requirements.
  • Set up and maintain records of planned, unplanned, and completed maintenance in PC based preventative maintenance program.
  • Works closely with Quality on problem resolutions and new product implementation.
  • Participates in strategic planning to include input regarding new equipment, support software, and training.
  • Supports Engineering to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes, workflow, time standard data collection, and documentation.
  • Supports the Production to determine work cell capacity, personnel requirements, and utilization, and maintain schedule attainment goals.
  • Supports Maintenance to maintain uptime in all automated work areas, support internal programming efforts, and provide maintenance support/repairs as necessary.
  • Position may require moderate travel to corporate headquarters and vendor locations.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot automated and programmable equipment to provide maximum uptime.
  • Effectively evaluate and improve manufacturing processes and documentation in automated work areas.
  • Provide uptime, downtime, and product throughput information of automated work areas.
  • Support Production to maintain scheduled throughput in automated work areas.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree (A. A.) in electronics, mechatronics, robotics, industrial maintenance or equivalent from a two-year/technical college with minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training.
  • Incumbent must have basic computer understanding including Microsoft Office, and robotic and programmable equipment software experience.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May involve difficult work positions for brief periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
