Job Description

The School District of Beloit is seeking a Biliteracy Instructional Leadership Coordinator. This is a permanent/full time position based on a 52 week calendar. Minority and bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Salary offers are based on education/experience. Start date: July 3, 2023.


Reports to Director of Instructional Leadership and Equity

A PK-12 Biliteracy Instructional Leadership Coordinator is responsible for providing instructional leadership within a district-wide biliteracy framework. Position objectives include studying, evaluating, and implementing research-based curriculum and instruction in both monolingual and bilingual programs; providing leadership in the development, articulation, and implementation of articulated instructional programs; improving instructional programs by assisting with program evaluation; and assisting in the coordination and facilitation of relevant staff development.

The roles and responsibilities of an Biliteracy Instructional Leadership Coordinator include:

  • Facilitating the development of quality curriculum and instruction in both monolingual and Dual Language Immersion programs.

  • Ensuring that curricula are based on clearly defined standards for learning.

  • Coordinating and leading professional development.

  • Coordinating and leading support for staff serving Multilingual Learners and their families.

  • Modeling the effective use of instructional technology.

  • Providing extensive and ongoing support for the effective use of research-based literacy and biliteracy instructional practices in implementing the curricula.

  • Assisting district and building administrators in understanding and utilizing student assessment data for the purpose of enhancing student academic achievement and meeting state, federal and district objectives.

  • Applying research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching and learning process.

  • Bilingual - bicultural plan development with required reporting.

  • Working with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curricular documents based on regular, systematic review and analysis.

  • Collaborating with other district personnel (e.g. district administrators, curriculum coordinators, building principals, teachers, etc.) for the purpose of selecting, maintaining and updating effective instructional resource materials and methodologies.

  • Performing other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education with a major or emphasis in the applicable content area.
  • Wisconsin teaching certificate.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement.
  • Reading Teacher certification, License 5016 (with ability to obtain a Specialist License 5017 within two years), and Bilingual (1023) or ESL (1395) required for Biliteracy Instructional Leadership Coordinator.
  • Master's degree in curriculum and instruction preferred 5010.

  • Experience in differentiated instruction in a standards-based curriculum
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Demonstrated Teacher Leadership.
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning, and applies new learning to help all students achieve.
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.

Working conditions
Normal office working conditions; may be in the schools Otherwise, the job requires a person to work in special working conditions that are stated in the job description.

Physical requirements
Must be able to walk, climb stairs and move about the building as needed. This may require the incumbent to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time, lift heavy objects as needed, do repetitive tasks.
